Fraser Stoddart Named Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
Sir Fraser Stoddart is one of nine Northwestern faculty elected to one of the nation’s most prestigious honorary societies this year. He will be inducted at a ceremony Oct. 6 at the academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Stoddart Student Awarded NDSEG Fellowship by the Department of Defense
Jonathan Barnes, of the Stoddart Research Group, has been awarded the 2012 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship. Mr. Barnes was selected from over 3,000 applicants to receive the fellowship which covers tuition, required fees, and a stipend for three years.

Tiny Hitchhikers Attack Cancer Cells
Professor Teri W. Odom, who led the study, are the first to develop gold star-shaped nanoparticles to deliver drug directly to a cancer cell's nucleus. The drug release was connected to cells dying and the cancer cell population becoming less viable. NewCenter Story

Mirkin Awarded the Van’t Hoff Prize

Hupp Wins ACS Analytical Chemistry Award in Electrochemistry
Joseph T. Hupp has been named the 2012 recipient of the ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry Award in Electrochemistry. He is a Morrison Professor of Chemistry and a senior science fellow in the Materials Science Division and the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division at Argonne National Lab.
